A friend remarked, "Sincerity is the key to success, nowadays if you can fake that, you've got it made."
An increasing number of people have learnt the art of faking sincerity. Easily fooled by their apparent sincerity we give such people our complete support. They propel themselves into positions of influence and power often only to cause harm.
Most of the problems in society are caused by such people who have faked their sincerity and commitment.
The corollary is that just because some people are abrupt, or curt does not mean they are bad or insincere. The only way to choose I suppose is to look at actions rather than words to decide if people are sincere or not.
Let me illustrate by way of a recent incident.
On July 11 Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Teresa Ribera responsible for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (environmental sustainability) arrived on a bicycle at the European Union’s Climate Summit. She earned widespread praise for her eco-friendly gesture.
In reality, Ribera travelled to the event via a private jet, then in a four-car convoy of limousines till about 100 metres from the venue where escorted by two armoured cars, she hopped onto a bicycle and arrived on the scene.
If we look at her bike riding she appears so sincere, and worthy of praise and support. If we choose to look beyond the obvious we discover the truth and her push for control over the lives of people.
Faking it may get us somewhere, but, certainly, we won't last there very long,
